Choices made before the warehouse that decide the declaration
By the time you reach Submit Parcel, most declaration problems are already decided: by which seller, which item, how many, and which list you picked them from. These are the choices to get right first.
How to choose a seller you can document

A good seller for a declaration is one whose listing gives you a clear item name and a clear price. Look for listings with specific titles, a size chart, real photos and reviews with buyer photos. Shops with long histories and many sales on Taobao or 1688 tend to describe their goods consistently.
Avoid listings where the price changes with obscure options you cannot read, or where the title lists ten different products. You will have to name the item and its price on the declaration.
Seller signals that help at the declaration step are dull ones: a stable price, a title that matches the photos, and an order page that shows exactly which option you bought. Signals that hurt are listings that bundle several products under one link, or where the price on the order differs from the listing because of hidden options. If you cannot tell from the order page what you bought and for how much, neither can the person reading your declaration.
How to choose an item that ships cleanly

Picking the right product starts with the listing and ends with the parcel. Before you buy, check the route limits for the item type in Oopbuy's estimator: batteries, liquids and magnetic parts narrow the routes or rule them out.
Think about weight and sameness too. A haul of five identical jerseys looks different at customs from five different ones.
How to choose a spreadsheet site

A spreadsheet site is a product catalogue, and catalogues go stale. Check three things: do the category pages load and show current products, are dead links removed, and does the site say who maintains it and when it last changed?
Hold this site to the same test. Our notices page logs what we re-read and when, and the footer identifies the guide as independent and points to appropriate account support.
Signs of a neglected spreadsheet site are easy to spot: categories that return empty pages, products that link to removed listings, prices quoted without a date, and no explanation of who provides the guide or how account support works. A maintained one tells you when it was last checked. Product discovery is the first half of the job; getting the parcel through customs is the half this desk adds to the catalogue.
How to judge a trustworthy agent

For the declaration step, a trustworthy agent publishes its rules where you can read them before you pay: how declarations work, what customs risks you carry, what the declaration fee is, and what insurance excludes.
Oopbuy does publish these, in its help centre. It also names its operating company, Openbuy Technology HK Limited, and states plainly that it is an agent, not a seller.
Where Oopbuy falls short is consistency. Its help centre states some numbers in more than one way: storage extension limits appear in several versions, PayPal top-up fees in two, and delivery times in three. None of those touch the declaration directly, but they are a reason to read the specific page that governs your question and to note the date you read it.
Other shopping agents you will hear about
Oopbuy is one of several agents that buy from Chinese marketplaces for overseas customers. Others work the same way: a first payment for goods, warehouse inspection, then a second payment for shipping with a declaration. The differences sit in fees, routes, warehouse services and how the declaration is presented.
If you compare, compare the published rules: whether the agent explains declarations at all, whether it offers a choice of modes, whether IOSS is available on EU routes, and what its insurance excludes. Those are checkable. This site does not rank agents.

Things to watch before you pay

- Write down what you pay per item, as you pay it.
- Do not buy many identical units for one parcel.
- Check the route accepts the item type before buying.
- Read the 5-day return window: check the 120-hour next-whole-hour stock-in rule, seller eligibility, item condition and exclusions.
- Do not buy counterfeit goods; Oopbuy may destroy them without shipment or refund.
